Find Reasons Behind Your Procrastination

Find Reasons Behind Your Procrastination

It is a complex situation where a person delays or postpones something and this act can have many different reasons. A person does so when:

  • He has convinced himself that his homework is beyond his ability.
  • Puts off his homework just as a way of rebelling against his teachers and parents.
  • He has decided even before studying that the topic is not interesting.
  • He is wasting his time and waiting for the perfect time to start studying.
  • Due to wasting his time now the task has become so overwhelming and the time is too short that the person does not know where to start.

The first step to get motivated is to realize why you procrastinate. Spend some time to find out what is the reason. In this way you will be able to understand the problem and will know the ways to overcome it.

Share Your Anxiety With A Loved One

Before you start working on your studies, it is better to share your anxiety with a loved one. It is because researchers have stated in a study that when you are in extreme stress, talking to your loved one and listening to their voice can help releving your anxiety.

That is why it is recommended that if you are student then talk to your mother, father, guardian or siblings. Or if you are living in hostel then you can call your mother or your loved one and listen to their voice, as it will help you get relaxed.

Break The Material Down Into Small Parts

Break The Material Down Into Small Parts

One of the major reasons seen in the students for procrastination is that the task before them seems so breath-taking. That is why in is good to break down your syllabus in to different parts.

Then break down each part into small chunks. After doing so, assign yourself certain numbers of task according to the remaining days. Suddenly you will feel that you are no sacred of overwhelmed task but rather motivated with a series of manageable chunks.

Each chunk might comprises reading four to five pages of your textbook, solving mathematical problems, or finding three reference articles on the Internet for your paper.

Reward Yourself

A reward can compel you to complete your task that is why you must set a reward for yourself after every two or three chunks with a short period of relaxing your time.

This period can include a short walk, listening to music or playing games. Rewarding yourself with short but enjoyable breaks is a key part of the breaking down technique.

Turn Your Boring Subject Into Interesting

Turn Your Boring Subject Into Interesting

Sometimes we find it really difficult to study because we think that the subject is quite boring. Whnever you face such situation, ask yourself: is the subject really boring or does it seems boring to you because you have closed your mind to it.

“There are no boring subjects, only disinterested minds.”

You can ask yourself different questions to engage yourself in it such as:

  • Who developed this technique or theory?
  • When was it developed?
  • What problem did it solve?
  • How would the world be different today if not for this technique or theory?
  • What changes you can make in this theory?

Or visualizing the concept in your mind can also make it interesting. There are several questions you can ask yourself to make the subject interesting.

Don’t Just Memorize The Topic

Don’t Just Memorize The Topic

For an effective study one of the important things is to understand a concept instead of memorizing it or rote learning. Sometimes, rote learning is also required, but, most commonly, as we spend time in school, we understand relationship between different concepts.

Similarly, when we study a concept we easily relate it with other concepts and can understand it better.

My Favorite Motivation Technique

My Favorite Motivation Technique

In the last I will let you know my favorite technique to stop procrastinating and to study with full concentration. Not just for this, I also use this technique when I am demotivated during my tasks.

So, first of all I visualize how will I feel after achieving the desirable grades, and imagining that feeling of success I really try my best.

Also I imagine myself telling my proud loved ones that I succeeded in exams. Imagining, the future career also add up in my motivation.  Also, for the short term rewards and motivations I set up a reward of watching a TV Play or movie with my favorite food and imagine myself watching this with my favorite food and with no stress of any study task left for the day.

Note: If the above techniques does not work for you cab adopt other motivational techniques to study. If you want to share any of your own motivational technique then write it in the comments section, we will be waiting to hear from you.
